PROTECT YOURSELF FROM BEING SCAMMED

The key to avoiding fraud is knowledge.

A little knowledge can go a long way in preventing scammers from taking advantage of you. has put together the following video and facts to help empower you to spot, avoid and report fraud. Together, we have the power to make our community safer.

Keep these fraud-fighting tips in mind:

  • Always ask to see an official ID if someone approaches you, your home, or your business and says they work for .
  • If you get a call and you’re not sure if the person is a employee, ask for their name, hang up, call us at (913) 573-9190 and ask for the employee.

Your safety and well-being are our top concerns. If you’re unsure or suspect someone is trying to scam you, remember you have the power to say “no” and call us immediately.

Avoid Frauds

[Narrator] Hello?

Light comes on in the bedroom as woman answers the phone and she says Hello?

[Narrator] This is your utility company. Payment is overdue and we are shutting off your power unless you pay immediately.

A man on the other end of the line, stating that he is from the utility company, says she is late on her utility payment and they are going to shut off her power if she doesn’t pay immediately.

[Narrator] That’s a scam.

[Narrator] will never call demanding payment. You may receive a reminder call, but never a ‘pay now’ call.
